Cyprus is an island of outstanding natural beauty. Away from the cosmopolitan towns and beach resorts you will find large areas of natural, unspoilt countryside. Rugged, pine-clad mountains, woodlands, gentle orchards and vineyards are interspersed with tranquil, timeless villages. In April and May the mountains come into bloom and April and October see a profusion of migratory birds passing through. At all times of the year the locals extend a warm and friendly welcome.
We
start our tour at Pedoulas Village, high in the Troodos Mountains. On day
2 you make a circular walk from Pedoulas via Moutoulas and its 13th
century church, enjoying wonderful scenery and some spectacular views. You
continue from Pedoulas through the delightful Platy Valley to the village
of Milikouri. Your next day’s walk starts after the Monastery of Kykko,
mostly via the pine forest with a section through Cedar Valley and onto
Stavros tis Psokas forestry station. This entire area is the habitat of
Moufflon, a horned sheep unique to Cyprus. You descend from the Troodos
through the beautiful, narrow valley of Stavros, and then via Simou
village on to the pretty little village of Kato Akourdaleia. The walk now
continues through a gentler landscape of vine-yards and citrus groves
passing the tiny 16th century Byzantine church of Ayia Paraskevi, and onto
the pleasant village of Drouseia. From Drouseia you descend to the west
coast on the way to the small fishing harbour of Agios Georgios tis
Pegeias, with the option of going up to the entrance of Avagas gorge on
the way.
On
the 11 day tour you stay 3 nights at Chrysochou Bay on the northern side
of the Akamas Peninsula. The Akamas affords a variety of scenery and
breathtaking views. You can visit the well known beauty spot the ‘Baths
of Aphrodite’. Another walk takes you via the wooded Smiyies area and
the peak of Mouti tis Sotiras for spectacular views of the Akamas
Peninsula.
7
nights/8 days - The type and standard of accommodation
used on this tour varies considerably as choice is limited in the
small mountain villages which are a feature of this walk.
Your hotel at Pedoulas is a comfortable, family-run
guesthouse in the middle of this attractive village. Milikouri is
a remote village with few inhabitants, where you stay at the former
schoolhouse. In the forests at Stavros tis Psokas you stay at
an attractive guesthouse run by the Forestry Department. In the
centre of the tiny village of Kato Akourdaleia you stay in a
traditional old building now converted into an attractive,
family-run inn. At Drouseia we stay in a larger 3* star hotel
with pool, on the edge of this attractive village. Your hotel at Agios
Georgios tis Pegeias is a small, family-run guesthouse about 400
metres from the small fishing harbour and beach.
10
nights/11 days - On the 11 day tour you stay 3 nights at
