Locked away in its Himalayan fortress, Tibet has long exercised a unique hold on the imagination of the West: ‘Shangri-La’, ‘The Land of Snows’, ‘The Rooftop of the World’. Tibet offers some of the most awe-inspiring scenery in the world, and the sheer scale of the high-altitude valleys, mountains and lakes in which human habitation is but a speck on the landscape is humbling. On this short tour you can discover a true taste of this fabled land. We will travel in a four wheel drive Land Cruiser, following the Friendship Highway out of Nepal, over high passes, into Tibet and through some of the most amazing landscapes on Earth. We cross the wide arid plains with views of awe-inspiring mountain peaks while the cities of Lhasa, Shigatse and Gyantse offer the most accessible monasteries and temples to visit enroute - the Jokhang, Tashilunpo and the Kumbum respectively - and are also tourist-friendly places with the biggest range of facilities in the region. The Potala Palace in Lhasa remains an enduring image of Tibet in the Western mind, and there are plenty of smaller sights in the city. The flight returning from Lhasa to Kathmandu is a highly memorable experience in its own right as you cross over the Himalayas before dropping down over the green hills of Nepal. Departure Dates: 20 April, 16 July, 14 May, 13 August, 11 June, 17 September 8 Days Bed & Breakfast: CLICK HERE FOR LATEST PRICES
