EVEREST BASE CAMP
Trekking in Khumbu, Home of the Sherpa People
To stand beneath the towering rock and ice of the highest peak is both a challenge and a fantastic experience. The wind-swept tops of Everest, Lhotse and Nuptse form a skyline like no other; the landscape is hard, barren and inhospitable but also mesmerising and incredibly beautiful. The magnetism of Everest, the world’s most famous mountain, draws trekkers from around the world. This classic route to Base Camp brings you face to face with the grandeur of the highest of the Himalaya and close to the local way of life as you pass through the many villages on the way to Namche Bazaar.
This is where ‘Sherpa Expeditions’ started in 1973, we are named after the Nepalese Sherpa guides, who are proud of the way that they look after their guests and lead with professionalism and a generous helping of good humour, as they have done for so many years. This trek follows much of the trail taken by the now famous early mountaineering expeditions, walking up the valley of the Dudh Kosi, then heading up to Namche, on to Pangboche and finally to the amazing Khumbu Glacier and Everest Base Camp. After two days in Kathmandu experience the breathtaking views on the flight to Lukla before starting the trek. During the first few days pass Namche Bazaar, Thame and arguably the most spectacular viewpoint in the world at Thyangboche Monastery. Day stages are planned with a couple of 2-night stops allowing excursions to higher ground to aid acclimatisation. The climax of the trek is to ascend to Base Camp and Kala Pattar for the best views of Everest, the Khumbu Glacier and surrounding peaks.
