Trekking in Chile's
Torres del Paine National Park
Walking in Argentina by Mt. Fitzroy and
visit the Perito Moreno Glacier
Cruise Through the Beagle Channel
Classic
walks in the High Andes
The sublime wonders of the wild lands of Patagonia are brought to you on
this trekking adventure set amidst the Andes of Chile and Argentina.
Superlatives do little justice in describing the soaring granite spires of
the Fitzroy group or the peaks of the Torres del Paine. A world of glacial
sculpture unfolds to captivate the imagination, at the heart of which
resides the spectacular Perito Moreno Glacier. The mountains and morraines
are bejewelled with glacial lakes of turquoise and emerald reflecting the
snow capped pinnacles above.
After an overnight in buzzing Buenos Aires, the adventure begins at the bottom of the World: Tierra del Fuego and Ushuaia. You will have time to have a good look around and enjoy the panoramas as we cruise through the Beagle Channel. Then you travel by bus into the Chilean Torres del Paine National Park, awarded World Heritage status by UNESCO because of its unique wildlife and magnificent scenery. The Paine massif rises abruptly from a low-lying plain to over 3000m. The peaks are accompanied by jewel like glacial lakes, cascading waterfalls and verdant beech forests. We trek up to the Las Torres viewpoint, an amazing natural amphitheatre at the bottom of the vertical granite towers. We then head into the beautiful French Valley flanked by The Horns to the east and by the impressive Paine Grande to the west. From Paine, cross rolling steppes and grassy heath lands as you coach over the Argentine Border to Calafate to reach the edge of Los Glaciares National Park. Already the Andes are looming large ahead of us, thrusting some 3,000 metres into the sky. We set off into the foothills and soon get our first panoramic views of Mount Fitzroy. After some time trekking amongst the awe inspiring rock towers, return to Calafate for a close up observation of the spectacular Perito Moreno Glacier, a vast glacier, 60 metres high whose icebergs carve noisily into the southern iceberg channel of Lago
Argentino.
