The English Lake District
 This
delightful walk will take you through England’s most rugged and
mountainous landscape: the Lake District National Park, celebrated by the
poetry of Wordsworth and more recently by the stories of Beatrix Potter.
The trail leads past the peaceful depths of Coniston Water and
Derwentwater, two of the prettiest lakes, as well as the incomparable Tarn
Hows, set like a jewel in the wooded hills between Coniston and Langdale.
The walk starts in
the market town of Ulverston, on the shores of Morecambe Bay and gradually
ascends first through rolling hills and farms to Coniston, a pretty
village on the shores of the lake of the same name dominated by the 2650
feet high Old Man of Coniston.
Then it’s over
the fells past the remains of old copper mines to Langdale. Perhaps the
prettiest and most dramatic of Lakeland valleys. Our next port of call is
Borrowdale which also lays claim to this title. It would take a judgement
of Solomon to decide between the two, but why worry, just enjoy the
scenery and the mountains.
Journey’s end is
in the charming market town of Keswick. An excellent spot to maybe linger
an extra day and tackle Skiddaw, or take an easy walk to the prehistoric
Castlerigg Stone Circle.

Accommodation
7
nights/8 days - As we traverse the fells, pastures and
lakeshores of the English Lake District we stay at some of the best
and most characterful accommodation this beautiful region has to
offer. At Ulverston we stay in a friendly, family-run hotel
in the heart of this attractive town. At Lowick Bridge we
stay in a very welcoming country inn. In the heart of Coniston,
a former slate and copper mining village, we stay two nights at a
comfortable guesthouse. In the rugged and scenic Langdale Valley
we stay at a famous inn where generations of climbers have planned
their future exploits in the comfortable lounge. Many former clients
have returned to stay at our long established guesthouse in one of
the hamlets of Borrowdale, distinguished by its friendly
welcome, log fires and home cooking. Our last night is spent at a
comfortable hotel in the market square of Keswick.
