When walking in Bavaria or the Black Forest
it is plain to see that Germany is proud of its rural heritage.
It is a stronghold of the green movement and
the countrys wealth has
helped it to conserve its beautiful landscape
and historic monuments.
The south
of the country is the more traditional,
with many a foaming Stein of wheat beer being consumed in the beer cellars of Munich,
and Lederhosen often worn by
hikers in the Alpine region of Bavaria, where our Munich to the
Alps tour follows in the steps of King Ludwig through the incomparable
Bavarian lake district to the fairy tale castle of Neuschwanstein on the
Tirolean border.
In the Black
Forest, east of the wine-growingcity
of Freiburg, they really do still make cuckoo clocks, while schwarzwalder Kirschtorte (Black Forest chocolate gateau) can
help restore the calories you
expend on the hills of
the Westweg (Western Way),
the worlds first designated long distance walkers trail.
