Austria
has many great attractions: This includes the legacy of the Hapsburg
Empire in Vienna, the life and music of Mozart in Salzburg and the
magnificent scenery of its alpine hinterland. Austria's diversity shines
not only through its landscape but through its population: Due to its
central location in the heart of Europe and its vibrant history, a
cross-section of cultures flow together and are combined throughout the
country.
Vienna, provides a fascinating start to the self guided bike ride to
Prague and Salzburg is at the center of the Sherpa Cycling from Salzburg
trip as well as being a possible extra stopover on the way to our
great walking itinerary in the Dachstein Mountains. Both cities have some
stunning architecture including 18th century high Baroque to 19th
century imperial projects.
From Vienna or Salzburg you can reach the Dachstein and Gosaukamm
Mountains where you will find some of the most dramatic of Austrian alpine
scenery. Our walk here is offered as a self-guided holiday. The lower slopes of alpine pasture are dotted with
picturesque lakes and villages including gorgeous Halstatt, whilst the
high triangular mountaintops are smothered with glacial ice.
If you fancy some easier walking on the periphery of Austria, you need
look no further than our tour above the Bodensee, in the Bregenzerwald. An
area less frequented by non Austrian tourists in particular, but still
offering attractive forest and alpine walking, and exceptional views
towards lake Constance and the high alps.
For some gentle cycling try our Cycling from Salzburg trip for a mix of
mountains, lakes and rivers and connections with the great Wolfgang
Amadeus Mozart.
